Water Parks in Hong Kong

Actually there is no water park in Hong Kong, not the way we think of big waterparks in the US with big slides and lazy river rides, etc. But there are many public swimming pools which are actually mini water parks. I read about this online and went to check it out, sure enough. The best thing is it only costs $20 HKD (which is less than $3 USD) for adults and $10 HKD (which is less than $2 USD) for kids! Here are a few of them we've visited:

This swimming pool is perfect for preschoolers, kindergarteners and maybe kids under 10 years old. First a bit about cleanliness of the pool, it's very clean and actually really quite perfect. Before we went, I was a bit worried about cleanliness as we are very picky, but I can say our experience has been great, the pool is very clean, the children nearby were not rowdy, very polite. We went early May and it was not very hot that day, so the entire play pool had only about 10 people total! There is a big rectangular pool for swimming laps. Then there is another pretty decent size area (picture above) with slides, water guns, floating animals, water fountain, the area I would guess is around 5,000 square feet or so.

In the 5,000 square feet play area, the water was around 1.5-2 feet high, my 3 year old daughter can walk in the pools. There is one area with a big mushroom maybe 15 feet high, where water comes down from the top. My kids loved standing under it. Then there is a big fountain with water coming from the ground like it's dancing. Another fun area. Then there are water guns lining the sides of the pool for kids to just shoot from. There are 2 baby slides, you can imagine literally for 6 months old baby to slide down. But on both sides of the slides are dolphins on one, sharks on the other. The dolphins and the sharks shoot water from their mouths. Then there are a few stationery bicycles which my 5 year old son loves, which you have to pedal, and when you pedal, water shoots out.

Then there is a big blue slide (middle right of the photo) about 10 feet high, the base was around 10 feet wide, so not coming down super fast, nor super slow. It's fun for the kindergarten and lower elementary crowds. I saw some teenagers coming down, they looked a bit big for the slide. Then there is another play structure with regular playground equipment of a yellow slide (to the left of the blue slide in the photo), but the difference is water comes down on all sides. Then there are two slides (orange and yellow towards the front of the photo) which are sloped more mildly. Somehow my kids can float down no problem. While I kept getting stuck and had to push myself with my hands to keep moving forward.

Then in the middle of the pool, there are some floating animals like a lobster, a frog, a dragonfly, etc, where you can sit on. My kids liked to push each other off and laughed.

Overall we had a great experience at the Jordan Valley swimming pool. I would highly recommend.

We went to checkout Hammerhill Road Swimming Pool in Wong Tai Sin (actually in Diamond Hill). It's even more awesome than the one in Jordan Valley. The whole area is bigger. Now that it is much hotter, there were quite a lot of people on a Tuesday. Again, it's very clean, we purposely picked a Tuesday to go since weekly cleaning was on Monday.

The entire pool is divided into two areas, an outdoor area and an indoor area. Since it's summer, they are both open and connected. I imagine in the winter, the indoor area is enclosed and open, while the outdoor area is closed. Again the depth of the water was only around 0.5 meter high so even my three year old daughter can walk in the pools. First the indoor area is divided into 3 sections, one section is the rectangular lap pool which we did not go to. Second section is a play structure with slides and water shooting out from all sides.

The third section is a pirate ship! There are slides coming down from the pirate ship. Many cannon looking water guns my son could shoot water from. There is a real steering wheel both my kids loved to steer. The pirate ship looked really real and so much fun for the kids.

The outdoor area is bigger than the indoor area and divided into four to five sections each with different kinds of fun, either water coming out from the ground or water coming down from a mushroom. Again there are water guns lining the pool, also floating rubber animals to sit on. There are also three different set of play structure slides and two bigger slides (pink and green).

While Jordan Valley (see above) is more suited for little kids, Hammer Hill will be fun for little kids and even teenagers which we saw quite a few of. It won't be as adrenaline inducing as some of the bigger slides below. It was still a lot fun.

Another swimming pool we highly recommend!

  1. Water Slides are the ideal gift for kids whose birthdays are celebrated during the summer months. If you're actually planning a birthday party for your child very soon, why not make it a pool party and ask everyone to come over and some fun over the water slide? Very good range of Water Slides are available on this link on affordable price.

  3. Hi, thanks for this post. I hope you are still reading comments. We are visiting HK this summer and I know my toddlers would love to play in something like this. Do you know of any good ones on the HK side? Also any hotel recommendations?
